1. Which category is it

National park — turn up and pay at the checkpoint. Zapovednik — arrange in advance; there is no open entry. Rezervat — depends on the zone.

A tariff existing in the order does not mean everyone is admitted: reserves have tariffs too. Categories explained.

2. What it costs here specifically

There is no single price: every institution has its own appendix and its own rate, from 0.3 MCI per car at Ile-Alatau to 0.9 at Altyn-Emel — full table.

Rates are set in MCI units, so the tenge figure changes every January. An article quoting a price without a year is almost certainly stale.

3. Whether you need a border zone permit

A border district is not by itself a reason to arrange one. For Kolsai, Kaindy, Big Almaty Lake and Charyn the border regime for foreigners is excluded by regulation. The list.

4. Season and road conditions

Summer in a canyon is punishing, winter is beautiful and empty but the road decides. The final kilometres to many checkpoints are unpaved, and rain makes them a different road.

5. Connectivity and offline

There is usually no signal inside. Save your route and the pages you need in advance — this site works offline, here is how.

6. How to pay

Payment is made at the checkpoint. Whether cards are accepted is a question for the specific park; cash works everywhere.

Not verified yet Checkpoint opening hours per park and card acceptance. These differ between territories and shift with the season; a general rule here would do harm.
