Kazakhstan national parks and reserves compared: area and fees
All 29 protected areas with approved visitor tariffs: area, per-person charge and car entry. Sort, search and compare any two.
Verified: 2026-10

How to read the table
- Area comes from the national list of protected areas, in hectares.
- Per person is a daily charge, car is per entry. Burabay is the reverse: vehicles pay per day and there is no per-person charge — that row is marked with an asterisk.
- Tenge amounts use the current year’s MCI; the order itself sets fractions of the MCI.
To work out a specific trip with people, days and transport, use the calculator.

What the table shows
- The largest area is Irgiz-Turgai at 1,173,511 ha; the smallest is Karatau Reserve at 34,300 ha — about 34 times apart.
- The per-person fee is nearly uniform: 0.2 MCI in 18 of the 29 areas. What differs is mostly the vehicle rate.
- The most expensive car entry is Altyn-Emel at 0.9 MCI. The cheapest is 0.3 MCI, in 6 areas.
Strict reserves do have tariffs in the order, but visits there are limited by the protection regime — see protected area categories.
Frequently asked questions
Why 29 areas and not every protected area in the country?
Visitor tariffs exist only for these: 28 appendices of Order No. 232 plus the separate Burabay act. The national list has more protected areas, but the rest have no approved visitor fee.
Which area is the largest?
Irgiz-Turgai — 1,173,511 ha. The smallest is Karatau Reserve at 34,300 ha, roughly 34 times smaller.
Is the per-person fee the same everywhere?
No: 0.2 MCI a day in 18 areas, 0.15 in 7, 0.1 in 3. Burabay has no such line.
